frustration vs gratification

Well the last 24 hours have been a learning experience I guess, if nothing else.  About what I can do on WordPress…  but some of the time it can be most frustrating. When it works, it is very gratifying!!! That said, I have added some new pages, and set some under parent pages. For example one new page is ARTyfacts – I will add to it from time to time, perhaps, but  also will add any actual artefacts that I want to stay in an easy place to find in pages under this heading – thus you will find a little background information and photos of my 3D fabric shells and leaves. Likewise I have created pages for Art eg drawings, sketches and paintings – just to keep them together in one place as well. That will save people going back through all the archives to find something!

The frustrating thing for me is why sometimes I don’t seem to be able to set a featured image into a page but it won’t work for other pages! There will be a simple explanation I expect…. but I have yet to discover it.Maybe it is just the parent page I can change….. I will keep trying.

Addition…. WOOOHOOOO SORTED!!!  And now, time for a lo-o-o-o-ong break from the computer!!!

On Wednesday Oct 16 2013 less than an hour after the Prize Presentations at the 2013 Queensland Quilt Show at the Brisbane Quilt and Craft Fair,  a 45cm x 72 cm quilt, Feathers Unfolden, FIrst place winner in Textile Art quilt by Brenda Wood was stolen from the wall before Quilt Show organisers were able to place the ribbon on it. If you see this quilt anywhere, please contact Lyn Crump President of QQ:  Ph  +61 7 439 139640 or +61 439 139 640 in Australia.

Art – Composition exercises

Went to my first Composition lesson yesterday with Carol Beckx and it was a great morning, small class but fun – next week we expand on what we learned this week and start a painting…. Image

These are all parts drawn from Carol’s photograph of a Textiles shop in Singapore. I am looking forward to doing lots more of these using my own photos – the idea being to help me to see the dark and light areas within a scene, in order to depict it in the most interesting way  – whether that be a whole scene or just a small and abstracted portion of it. It’s quite an exciting prospect. Finding the time and the discipline to stick at it is as ever, the hardest part. But to make the classes worthwhile this is what I am focussing on this week with my artistic endeavours.

October Musings

SO today is the 30th already, less than two months to Christmas. Must get a TO DO BEFORE CHRISTMAS LIST going. Otherwise it will all be last minute rushing as usual.

The good news is, I have been experiencing a resurgence of inspiration with my Art quilting/ Textile Art…. a few reasons – some new faces in our group, recently discovered cyber hoarding, O M G .  but plenty of Art inspiration out there – I am in AWE of all those amazing talented people! It’s overwhelming! Not only that, but for my birthday I was the happy recipient of a new DSLR –  I THINK it’s an upgrade on what I was using, but my photos leave a bit to be desired, not too hot on the focusing…… perhaps I will get better….it can be so complicated… so anyway, I am out on the lookout for photo opportunities that might become Textile Art inspiration… don’t quite take the camera everywhere I go, but perhaps I should!

And , more time! Our exhibition is all over! see it here: Reddy Arts Textile Group:

I have posted a couple of pieces we have been doing for our group Reddy Arts textile Group  a little while ago. they have been fun : have now completed “Currents” so will post it in “Colour Challenge 2012 -2013” Dedicated Art Every Day seems to have fallen by the wayside, inasmuch as I have not been doing specific drawings in my sketchbook – well it was a good idea while it lasted, lol! – but I have been doing other “ART” in the meantime – it’s the camera’s fault actually, and not only that but a few other things got in the way, for example I have been helping a friend of mine and made a couple of incubator covers for the Wesley neonatal unit, they were fun. I cheated on the first one using a purchased pattern from Craft Cubby:,  I could not resist them, they are so cute!

Another good thing is, I have now started my QQ Challenge and it’s well under way!! Very pleasing.

Then there is the Brush Turkey mini quilt I made a week ago…..

You can see,  I have been having some fun, despite my bad news which is that my lovely old Dad (See June blog) passed away in August. We are all very sad, and even though we know he had a great life, it’s no consolation.
