Quilt support pulley system – reduce drag when quilting

First a little background to give you an idea of why I find this idea so appealing and which so far has worked really well for me. I have been struggling for some time with a progressively stiff and painful  –  and now weak as well – shoulder – turns out not to be a frozen shoulder (I wish! because they get better after a couple of years) but is quite severe osteoarthritis, and at some point will require replacement of the joint – now this I do not really want, but it may become essential if I cannot pursue my creative passions of patchwork, quilting and textile art! So when I saw this, I just had to set it up for myself.

Early pics of my set up are below, or click this link:  “http://pieceocakeblog.com/2013/09/22/the-quilt-pulley-system/ to take you to instructions and photos showing how to set up a quilt suspension system to help reduce the drag on those large quilts.

Also,  for a quilt suspension frame which is portable, have a look at this website   http://www.jennoop.com/suspenders.html

I have plans to upgrade it to make it even more versatile for those really huge quilts…. not that I plan to make too many of these! So I will post those pics in due course – at present the upgrade is still in my head – a few logistics to iron out…. and then set  up will not be exactly a piece of cake!

Some other ideas include using mobile clothes racks (available at K Mart) and dog grooming frames that clamp on to your table – these would need to be sourced from dog grooming suppliers.
